Thanks, Pharma. You created the “anti-vaccine movement”.

I love that when a nonsense article floats around on facebook, everyone who knows me, sends it to me. This newest article was sent to me about a dozen times today. I’m out of town for work and said “Nope, not refuting it. No time”. But here I am, with a few hours to spare in my hotel room, and what am I doing….refuting the article. Haha!

I’ve been researching the measles vaccine for 8 years now and have written many posts on this subject.

So here we go…..again.

I have to remind myself that my passion and heart is truly to educate and empower other mothers. So if you are a non vaccinating mother and read the silly Daily Beast article titled “Thanks, Anti-Vaxxers. You Just Brought Back Measles in NYC”, and that article made you question your decision, or you were to made to feel like you needed to defend yourself and your decision to friends or family, this post is for you! Baby-Vaccines-175058_L
The article begins with: “There is currently an outbreak of measles in New York City.  Considered eliminated in the United States in 2000, last year saw a record number of outbreaks around the country”. (I kept the two original links within these sentences for references)

Let’s break this down.

Right away, the original article links to other articles.  I always click on the links within the original article, because that is where the real information can be found. The original article is always an opinion piece with no research or statistics. So I always leave the original article to get to root of what is being said. I look for statistics. Research. Science. Logic.

The first linked article is titled: “New measles cases confirmed in New York City”.

Are you ready for what comes next?

First sentence: “New York City health officials have identified 3 more cases of measles”

“Five hospitalizations have occurred as a result of this outbreak”

“At least two cases were transmitted right in a doctor’s office, officials said”

Say what? 3 WHOLE CASES? 5 hospitalizations? And 2 cases were transmitted right in a doctors office?

And this is what we call an outbreak? And we blame the unvaccinated? I honestly wonder how an “outbreak” such as this can warrant an article titled:  “Thanks, Anti-Vaxxers. You Just Brought Back Measles in NYC”. Is it just me, or have we completely lost grasp of what true journalism is?

And 2 cases transmitted right in a doctors office? Wait you mean transmitted through the vaccine? Ha! Seriously though, let’s not forget that the measles vaccine is a live virus vaccine that can live in saliva and feces, so yes those recently vaccinated are carriers. Vaccine shedding anyone?

I love how the original article (like I said which is always an opinion piece) says: “Measles was considered eliminated at the turn of the millennium. Now it’s back, thanks to the loons who refuse to vaccinate their children” Really? That’s the science? An article that calls parents loons? How low can we go?

The second link given in the original article, (about how measles was considered eliminated in the United States in 2000, but last year (2013) saw a record number of outbreaks), that link leads you directly to the CDC website which shows the graphic above. I’ve shared this graphic before. There you have it folks, all 159 cases of measles (2013 actually ended with 189 cases).

In 2000 (the year measles was “eliminated” from the US) there were 86 cases. So I guess somehow the difference between the 189 cases in 2013 and 86 cases in 2000, all 103 of those new cases are considered “outbreaks” and are caused by the small percentage of unvaccinated children? Totally logical, right?

Funny though, I went to the CDC website and in the year 2011 there were 222 cases in the US, which is significantly higher than 2013. And did you know that in 2011, we added a third MMR vaccine onto the childhood schedule, and also put it on the adult vaccination program as a regular booster?

Funny how we just can’t seem to eliminate measles within the United States.

In 1967, during a measles campaign, the CDC said: “Effective use of this vaccine during the coming winter and spring should insure the eradication of measles from the United States in 1967”. The cutesy slogan read “Stop measles with just one shot”.

Well that was 47 years ago. And now a child entering Kindergarten needs 3 shots.

Good ole measles.

I love how the original article states: “Most patients recover after an unpleasant but relatively uneventful period of sickness”. Yep, big bad scary measles. Seriously, how have we let measles become so scary? In a healthy child, the symptoms are nothing more than a common cold.

The article does goes on to say:  “Unfortunately, about one patient in every 1,000 develops inflammation of the brain, and one to three cases per 1000 in the United States result in death”. The truth is, 1 in about 10,000 (not 1,000) may develop inflammation of the brain.

Dr. Mendelsohn: “Doctors maintain that the inoculation is necessary to prevent measles encephalitis, which they say occurs about one in 1,000 cases. After decades of experience with measles, I question this statistic, and so do many other pediatricians. … in middle and upper-income brackets, … incidence of true encephalitis is probably more like 1/10,000 or 1/100,000.”

However 1 in 50 kids with autism suffer from inflammation of the brain and the MMR vaccine package insert for the measles vaccine actually lists inflammation of the brain as a side effect from the vaccine. Go read the package insert. It’s called encephalitis. Caused by the measles vaccine. Not caused by the natural measles virus.

As the article suggests, how do we actually know 1 -3 cases per 1,000 in the United States result in death? We don’t. According to the CDC, deaths occur in populations with high levels of malnutrition and a lack of adequate healthcare. Deaths don’t occur in developed countries. Deaths do not occur in 1 -3 cases per 1,000 in the United States. And in developing countries, “Data shows that one-third to one-half of the millions of deaths in children across the world, caused by measles, are due to undernutrition, not undervaccination”.

The original article continues with paragraphs such as: “The anti-vaccine crowd may think they’re only making a decision for their own family. In fact, they’re threatening to make the rest of us sick. Refusing to vaccinate your children means you are contributing to a worsening public health crisis. There is no denying it, and there is no point in sugar-coating it”.

“It is preposterous to think that a child who is vaccinated no longer carries the bacteria or the viruses that they have been vaccinated against. If, in fact, children are vaccinated, then why are parents and public health authorities afraid that non-vaccinated children are somehow carrying something that their children are not, when they should feel comfortable that their children are vaccinated? You can’t have it both ways…

You can’t vaccinate believing that your children are protected and then feel that your children are not protected because somehow, some non-vaccinated child is carrying some secret organism that no-one else is carrying. You can’t have it both ways. It just doesn’t make any sense”. -–Dr. Palevsky, board certified pediatrician in New York

vaccineworked (1)
I won’t go through each silly paragraph within the article. My favorite though was: “If you missed measles and are glad it’s back, thank a vaccine-denier”. If you are an adult who survived measles as a child, you now have PERMANENT immunity acquired from contracting the natural measles virus. You cannot and will not ever contract measles again. Who else is this article referring to that would be “missing measles” but the generation that actually contracted it naturally? They aren’t worried.

When these types of articles clearly point the finger at only one people group (in this case the non-vaccinating parent) it is so hard to understand the logic. The article states: “Perhaps vaccine-refusing parents will consider whether it’s worth the anxiety of knowing that a person who coughed in their grocery store two hours earlier could infect their kids as they do the week’s shopping together, and will reconsider their choices”

Scientists believe that measles can be eradicated by vaccinating 80% -100% of the population. Theoretically, such “herd” immunity will interrupt measles transmission and end epidemics. According to the CDC, childhood immunization levels are near or above national targets.

CHILDHOOD immunization levels are near or ABOVE National targets.

And why the heck is it always the “vaccine-refusing parents”? What about the vaccine-refusing adults? We have an entire generation of baby boomers who haven’t had a booster shot in years. Why don’t we blame them? The blaming is so targeted, it’s hard to take serious. The small percentage of unvaccinated children would or could never be the cause of an outbreak. But then again, it’s almost comical what we call an “outbreak”.

Dear Pharma

I’ll end with the sentence in the article that said: “I hope the anti-vaccine movement somehow loses steam”. Wake up Pharma. Wake the hell up. There is no such thing as an “anti-vaccine movement”. You created it. You got greedy and added 49 vaccines to the childhood schedule before a child starts Kindergarten. You created an entire generation of sick children. We know them as vaccine injured child. Guess what? These children ARE vaccinated. You know, the GREATER GOOD. The parents believed the lie. They did what they were told. The took their kids in for the shots. This movement is called truth. And it will never lose steam. Not until you stop harming and injuring children. This movement is only growing. This movement is just getting it’s steam. Your articles like the one today, they fuel us.

So go find another scare tactic. Your “measles outbreak” scare tactics aren’t fooling anyone.

Thanks, Pharma. You created the “anti-vaccine movement”.

  1. Thanks for writing this! I saw the article today and immediately thought of you. I was hoping you would write (another!) of these responses just to help moms like me who are trying to do the right thing by their children but unnecessarily and incorrectly blamed and criticized for our decisions. Again thank you!!

  2. Yes, thank you for this well written and thought out article! I simply love it. I have a vaccine injured child and I live with the consequences of my prior ignorance daily. This article provides valuable information that can help anyone on the fence with regards to vaccines. THANK YOU1

  3. Thank you for providing blog posts that are well researched to dispute the garbage out there from mainstream media. As a mom with 2 healthy unvaccinated children, it’s great to have someone like you do the research so I can share this with everyone who shoves these articles down my throat.

  4. THIS ARTICLE IS GENIUS! All day thoughts of a rebuttal article have been floating around in my head, but I have no time and I am no where NEAR the kind of writer you are! I want to post this everywhere and see it published everywhere. BRAVO!!!!!!

  5. Thanks for this. I can’t not respond when I see those stupid articles posted on my wall and to ignore them makes me feel like I am contributing to the problem. So when I don’t have time to write my own response, it is always nice to find an article like yours that I can post a link to.

  6. The cdc figure of 159 cases is actually only From Jan – August which is clearly stated in the link the article. It probably will still be in the hundreds, but I would think you would want to use the actual data.

  7. Thank you so much for this article! After a family member posted the “thanks to the loonies” article I couldn’t see straight.. Words like “scientific evidence” caccoon effect” ” MMR theory about autism was debunked.” Ugh. Is it because people don’t want to beeline they’ve been fooled? Or just plain irrational?

  8. Reblogged this on my life is as beautiful as i make it look on facebook and commented:
“You can’t vaccinate believing that your children are protected and then feel that your children are not protected because somehow, some non-vaccinated child is carrying some secret organism that no-one else is carrying. You can’t have it both ways. It just doesn’t make any sense”. -–Dr. Palevsky, board certified pediatrician in New York”

    • I reblogged this (the first time I’ve reblogged something… coowel) to my blog homeopathiccures and your title brings the thought that crosses my mind when I think of the moves Big Pharma makes to shoot itself in the foot is… Thank you Big Pharma for making people seek out Homeoprophylaxis (a way to use Homeopathy for infectious diseases)! Thank Gianelloni Family for clarifying the obvious ridiculousness of some of these arguments. Do you know of anyone of your calibre who could be like a Jon Stewart of “Medical Politics?!

  9. Thank you so much for taking the time out of you day to make me feel better. I am one of those moms who reads the stories going around Facebook and then second my decision. Thanks for helping me see that’s it just another scare tatic.

  10. Thanks. There is a “large” outbreak here in Canada (Fraser Valley, BC), but what I’ve been wondering is if it’s been eradicated, how is it back? I mean, it’s not like unvaxxed kids are just popping up with dead diseases. How did they get it? Vaccine shedding? Someone travelling where it’s not gone? Both?

    • MMR, chickenpox, whooping cough, shingles and flu mist vaccines all contain live virus which can shed from days to weeks to other people, thus spreading. And for anyone who says that the viruses in these vaccines is far too weak to cause the disease let’s think about the live polio vaccine that has been banned in Canada and the US for 10+ years because it was actually causing people to get polio. What I find interesting is that Bill Gates and his whole let’s vaccinate India against polio is actually using the live polio vaccine for these people, which has been causing many to suffer from polio symptoms, including paralysis. Also, I know of several people who are receiving chemo who have been told by their doctors to stay away from newly vaccinated children. Guess why…because they can shed the live viruses to these people with weak immune systems.

      • When my grandfather was very sick and in a rehab facility, the dr advised us to not bring my newly vaccinated six month old in because of vaccine shedding. There have been records of non vaccinated communities getting sick because of vaccine shedding (where I saw that article escapes me though)

      • Momma cow, you are not the first person who has written online about doctors telling them to keep newly vaccinated children away from very ill people. I have read it a number of times from others.

I made a comment on a FB page about live virus shedding and some guy who CLEARLY doesn’t know what he’s talking about had this to say about it, ” I believe your line regarding “live vaccines” and “shedding” is gibberish. Parents unnecessarily not vaccinating their children are abusing them and those children need to be kept out of public schools and common play areas.”

Can you imagine the ignorance people spew? They do zero to little research on the dangers of vaccines and tell people like myself that what I am saying about diseases spreading through live virus vaccine shedding is “gibberish”.

      • I was at a phenomenal seminar this weekend. It appears Autism numbers are getting worse again. Boys are still approx. 2x more likely to be damaged. The PUBMED research appears to be conclusive that the problem, besides all the crap in the vaccines, appears to be Tylenol/acetaminophen usage in conjunction with the vaccines! MMR appears to cause the most fevers thus many doctors tell patients to use preventative acetaminophen! The reason behind boys MAYBE due to circumcision! The boys, once again, are given prophylactic acetaminophen and vaccinated close to this time period!

I advise pro and anti vaccinated people to become educated on the data. But if you choose vaccines, consider doing them after age 2 (after the blood brain barrier is formed), increasing the child’s glutathione levels, and never giving a child anything with ACETAMINOPHEN in it!

      • It is no accident that the Gateses are using what they are. I have had people defend vaccines on the basis that “Bill Gates wouldn’t contribute to them if they were bad; how dare you” or “Bill & Melinda Gates wouldn’t have to donate them if people made money.” As disappointing as it is, what I’ve heard and read says that the Gateses’ agenda is despicable.

  11. BLESS YOU for spending so much time to post your research and education so that we can understand. I’ve read several books from my natural health store about vaccines and decided to decline since I plan to homeschool and when I read your blog I feel a peace that I know I made the right decision. I’m so thankful I have a supportive husband and 2 healthy children.

  12. I find it interesting that during the 2013 “outbreak” that there were no cases of measles in Idaho and New Hampshire, two of the states with the highest numbers of educated parents. Oh, I mean vaccine-deniers. ;-)

  13. You ROCK…ask a vaccinated parent WHY? they decide to vaccinate and chances are they will give you vague stats and facts followed with a blind trust of their doctors. Ask a parent who does not vaccinate and get ready for hours and hours of PROVEN stats and facts followed by the fact that they LOVE their child MORE than they TRUST their doctor.

    • …or ask a parent why they no longer vaccinate their child and get ready to hear about how vaccines injured their child, either with seizures, severe rashes, unconsciousness, high fevers, autoimmune disorders, severe intestinal disorders, or other illnesses.

Lesson learned: they no longer vaccinate.

Kudos to both Ms. Gianelloni for her brilliant refutation of the pharma-garbage and to BC for her excellent comment.

      • This is why I stopped vaccinating my children. Their immune systems are not as I strong as I would like them to be (they catch everything) and one of them has horrible eczema. I completely believe that this is all vaccine-related. They won’t be getting their 4-6 yr boosters or any other vaccines for that matter. I admit I was wrong to vaccinate (although I pretty much just blindly followed doctors’ orders) and I don’t have a problem doing so. I just wish other people would wake up to what is really going on here. Check out Dr. Tent on Youtube “The Exploding Autoimmune Epidemic”. Just wait to hear what some of these vaccines are really doing to us – not just autoimmune diseases. Scary, scary stuff. I checked references about what Dr. Tent talked about in PubMed and I found that he was correct in what he was saying, based on studies. WOW!

      • SD, for your kid with severe eczema, please consider a gluten-free diet.

One of my kids had a horrible skin reaction to his 4-month vaccines. It was a blistering, oozing red rash that lasted for months, and eventually morphed into what the dermatologist called “blistering eczema.” NOTHING worked on it–and we used every high power prescription ointment they prescribed, with the only result being my own fingertips going numb.

But when he was 7, we discovered (by a fluke) that the eczema disappeared completely when he was gluten-free, only to reappear 24 hours after he ate gluten again.

The dermatologist could not explain why the skin issues began with vaccines and then morphed into something affected by gluten. It wasn’t what he was eating–he was exclusively breastfed for 10 months, and when he started the rash, I went off the top 8 food allergens for 2 weeks, just in case it was in my milk. No change.

But the dermatologist did say they got a lot of business from vaccines…

  14. “Autism” is the result of infections and the neuroinflammation they cause…nothing more nothing less. Treat the infection and watch the “autism” disappear…

    • I agree! My son has completely recovered from autism. We stopped eating processed foods, stopped the vax, no more pills, starting taking a good probiotic and overall just approached life more naturally. He went from sitting in a corner, not talking or making eye contact & stacking blocks, to a typically functioning 6 yr old boy.

  15. Thanks for posting!! I really enjoyed reading this. My son had a seizure right there in the pediatrician’s office when he was injected with his MMR. The doctor told us not to worry, that he probably seized because he cried too hard. Then at two and a half he was diagnosed with classic autism and the child neurologist described him as “significantly effected.” We were given no hope for his future and told it was just our genetics. “He may never love you, get out of diapers, communicate with you like your daughter…” I knew it was the vaccines. We biomedically treated my son with a Defeat Autism Now doctor, (now they are called MAPS doctors) and today my son is recovered. People literally think I am lying or crazy if I tell them he used to be autistic. I wish the world would wake up.

    • I am so happy to read this story! I had no idea there were recoveries like this. It only seems parents are getting the diagnosis and steeling themselves for life with a child suffering from this disability, with no hope. I’m So, So, happy for you and your family!

      • There are kids who do recover. A DAN! or MAPS doctor is a very good idea. The earlier you recognize and treat a vaccine injury, the better the chance of improvement. Treatments usually involve testing to see what other medical issues might be involved–which is something most doctors COMPLETELY ignore with autistic children (they just say, “oh, he ACTS like that because he’s autistic,” and totally miss the fact that the child has horrible intestinal pain because he actually has undiagnosed celiac disease, Chrohns, IBS, etc, which are VERY common in autistic children. And those conditions are TREATABLE.

With intestinal disorders comes nutritional deficiencies, so these need to be addressed as well.

And there may be other medical issues, like systemic yeast infections, Lyme disease, systemic strep infections, heavy metal poisoning, and many, many others, all ignored by standard Western medicine if they occur in a child labeled “autistic.”

Some behavioral issues can also sometimes be at least partially traced to lifestyle. Ask yourself this: how many 8-year-olds do you know who eat nothing but processed foods (filled with chemicals, artificial sweeteners and colors, fats, sugar, etc, NO fresh veg, NO fresh fruit), get ZERO exercise, stay up way too late (so they are literally sleep-deprived), and get no fresh air, spending all free time in front of an electronic screen? How many of those kids will then be diagnosed as ADD/ADHD/depressed/bipolar? How does getting 50 vaccines by kindergarten in addition to that kind of a lifestyle affect neurological issues?

  16. As a child I got the measles after my vaccine at age 4. Light case of course & then again when I needed my 2nd mmr at age 18 in college. So yes I had a reaction to the vaccine twice. Needless to say both of my boys are unvaccinated and my 5 year old hasn’t missed a day of Kindergarten this year. He is healthy as a bull. Btw I am also a RN. My 2 year old did get the flu this year but he is in daycare. My boys are on top of each other non stop and my 5 year old didn’t get the flu from him, actually no one else in the house did and obviously none of is gets that bs flu shot. Don’t be scared. Do your research. I see kids at work with 3 & 4 mmrs on their immun records & they are fine but I also see little kindergarteners with a gazillions immunizations & they are in special need classes. It is so very sad.

    • My sister got whooping cough after her DPT shot. Dr said it was a coincidence and nothing to worry about. He was an older dr and used that I’ve never seen a vaccine injury in all my years being a dr excuse. She had her MMR shot and got rubella from that. The dr said no more vaccines for her. Oh yeah and he retired after that.
My husband gets his flu shot every year and gets the flu about half the time. I have never had he flu vaccine and only had it once in my life… When I was a baby I nearly died of a flu like disease. I sometimes wonder if I have a natural immunity bc of that. My breast fed little one has gone through two years of flu season being around a household with flu at the babysitters and she never got sick. Go figure…

    • I was fired from my job as a clerk in a hospital because I wouldn’t submit to a flu shot. I am a long time vegetarian for humane reasons and I was trying to get pregnant. I lost my job, but the baby will be here any day!

  17. Thank you for taking the time! It is so easy to get caught up in these fear-based articles. The more I read your logic and data-based posts, The more I am reminded of all the research I did when I made my decisions to not vaccinate. Thank you for the continuing education and thank you for providing so many with peace of mind.

  18. Another point to consider in your refutations, in regards to the comment about someone carrying measles coughing on your unvaccinated child in a grocery store – so what? Nonvaxxing parents do not fear these supposed “vaccine preventable” illnesses. We know IF our child contracts one, they will likely recover just fine. These diseases were once considered normal and NOT scary childhood illnesses, are rarely fatal in healthy children, and can be treated.

  19. I would much rather treat a child with measles, mumps, or any of the other routine childhood illnesses than to have to deal long-term with a vaccine-injured child. I myself had measles as a child. It was such a non-event that I don’t even remember it–I know it only because I still have the medical records my mother kept for me. I am eternally grateful that none of my children were injured by the vaccines they got before I knew better. My youngest is and will remain unvaccinated.

  20. I was hoping you would respond to this. I can’t say it made me question my decisions regarding vaccines, but I wasn’t sure how to specifically defend them. I really appreciate you walking us through how you read such articles by following the links, etc. It’s probably common sense to most, but I often get so flustered that I don’t know where to begin when wanting to find the truth. I can’t tell you how much your blog has helped me be better informed & more confident in my decision to protect my children. Thank you!

  21. Thank you for writing this article. I saw the post yesterday on FB. I see these things and my heart rate goes up and I just want to scream at all of the comments, but I close my mouth and try not to get into it with people.

  22. I read that incredibly horrible article on The Daily Beast and just got SO angry but couldn’t hone my feelings into logical arguments. I knew it was wrong I just couldn’t articulate why.

I have not had any vaccines and all this baloney and judgement was wearing me down. So thank you for this. It made me feel much better.

  23. Loved this post. Clearly you can think critically. We are all slowly but surely becoming aware. Since, I’ve become aware it is truly alarming the number of people I know who got the disease the vaccine was supposed to protect them from, were vaccine injured or died immediately following vaccination to be told something else killed them. We see this as plain as day when we open our eyes and connect the dots. I remember being a young child and reading a book where the main character had measles and her friend had mumps or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, they both had to stay home and rest to get better. There was no doom and gloom and certainly no suggestion that these characters (yes, I know they were ficticous) had “SURVIVED” something rather this was a normal childhood illness like any other. Forgot the name of the book but always wondered why kids didn’t get measles or mumps anymore…

  24. Love your common sense approach. Even though you said you weren’t going to respond to this, I’m glad you did. Thank you. You have summed up everything I know in my head and can’t get out when confronted (not that a confrontation would change my mind, it’s just frustrating to not be able to pull out all the facts when I need them). By-the-way, I reference you page a lot. Thank you for all the information you share!

  25. Thank you so much for writing this!!! and you are so right, this is only the beginning, we will never lose steam, because the truth can never be hidden, all the lies Pharma is hiding behind will be exposed, Yay for the truth!!!!

  26. They’re not fooling anyone with that measles article, everyone knows these articles are sponsored by the vaccine industry. Fear mongering is so 1950′s. Only the uninformed fall for it.

“Pro-vaxxers”—read the research before you pass judgment on those who choose to protect their children from the predatory drug industry… and before you choose to poison your own children. Your children will thank you for it.

  27. The logic of Pharma makes no sense. I don’t judge people who vaccinate their children. It is a personal choice. But I have seen firsthand what vaccine injury looks like, and it is not pretty. If vaccines were effective, we would live in a world free of disease. Fact is, NOT ONE vaccine is 100% effective. Some vaccines are less than 50% effective. And SOME vaccines will cause injuries to a perfectly healthy child. No thank you. Excellent article.

  28. My father was a pharmacist working for a large medical company who opposed over-vaccinating children and protected me from getting TB shots on the grounds that the risk from the vaccine was greater than the disease. I am now almost 60 and have never had TB.
Any time a health professional stands up against vaccination programmes, the supporters all scream ‘Witch ! witch ! witch!’
This is an excellent article. Well done !

  29. Thank you for continuing to write on this topic and for encouraging us mommas! It’s easy to forget that you aren’t alone in this, especially when you start getting pressure from all around. But knowing the truth and being able to defend our position is vital and your articles help so much!

ps- my 6 month old and 2.5 year old both had the measles last summer. And it was so mild we almost missed it, if it wasn’t for the rash. It really is a simple as a cold. And now they’re immune for life!

  30. Love this. The other article infuriated me. Not because of the author’s opinion, but the attitude in which it was delivered. And your response was perfectly eloquent. Thanks for posting!

  31. You forgot to mention the stupid statement “just under 50% of the measles patients were intentionally unvaccinated”. Which is another way of saying, over 50% of the measles patients WERE vaccinated…

  32. Thank you! I had refuting this article on my list of things to blog about, but now I don’t have to. :) I really was wondering about the data – “outbreak” my behind!

  33. I think I love you! Thank you for this article. You just found a new subscriber! I did something today that I have never done before since joining FB. I made a post in regards to people on my friend list posting the article you referenced telling them that if they would like to continue posting articles of this sort that belittle and bully my choices as a parent, then they could go ahead and delete me from their friend’s list or I would do it for them. I then proceeded to delete 3 people from my list and will gladly continue to do it to anyone else that posts garbage such as that article. I don’t have the time or will anymore to fight with people that can’t do their own research or that can’t open their eyes to what is happening around them! :) Keep up the good blogs!

  34. AND I love you even, even more! I was born and raised in Slidell! I’m in FL now but my family is still in the same house I was born and raised in so I go “home” all the time! I can’t wait to get to know you more–we have a lot of the same values. The Lord is first in our lives and I just started selling doTerra (I know, competition, but we in the essential oils mindset need to stick together)!

  35. Please shar your research and informed opinion regarding the polio vaccine. It is being reported that polio is making a comeback. If true, that IS very scary.

  36. All the links you’ve provided to peer reviewed journals, actual studies that appear in mediums other than your Facebook feed, and otherwise all around useful scientist and medical facts with methodologies and all… Well you just blew my mind with how thorough and well informed you are.

  37. Love this article! Thank you so much for sticking up for all of us parents who carefully chose not to vaccinate our precious angels. It was a very tough choice for me when I gave birth to my twin miracles, but once I made the choice it hasn’t been tough at all. I thank God every day for my miracle children and I thank God for placing the information on my path not to vaccinate. I have the Faith that I did make the right choice and I stand by it all the way. It’s simple when you really think about it. Let’s see, they tell pregnant mothers not to eat tuna fish because it has too much mercury, yet once your baby is born you are supposed to start injecting it with mercury poisoned vaccines!! So, they FDA will state they have mercury free vaccines, but when I did my research on that I found out they just lowered the mercury a little but can still call them mercury free! Pharma has the power and money to keep spreading these lies so let’s keep spreading the truth. Thanks again, I’m sharing your article with all my friends.

  38. Very well written response! I’m a mom of a severely vaccine injured daughter! She was injured at 2mos shots and is now 15 years old, unable to speak, unable to walk or do any of the daily living activities without my help! She also suffers from daily grand mal seizures! This all from her hepatitis B shot! Vaccine injuries are real and more prevalent then people realize! We had a 13 year battle fighting the government thru the vaccine compensation act and lost! So now all her medical bills and treatments fall on me, a single mom! Her pediatrician even deemed her a “casualty of war”.

Thanks for being the voice for so many of us! I appreciate you taking the time to respond to such scare tactics!

  39. Thank you for taking the time to write a rebuttal. I always doubt myself after reading articles like that one and your responses help guide me back to the light. Thank you!

  40. I knew enough to avoid the MMR for my kids but with all the other multi-valent vaccines I still have a (probably) vaccine injured child. My 2nd and 3rd children both had the single measles vaccine and were both so sick afterwards – one’s immune system was suppressed for months and he caught cold after cold after cold – at one point his throat was so swollen that the doctor tested him for mumps! (It wasn’t, it was “just” tonsillitis). The other basically had measles from the vaccine – fever, fluey symptoms, vomiting and diarrhoea, even the rash! My last child is totally unvaccinated as yet, and I am seriously, seriously questioning every single shot. I’m not a “loon” – I do my homework. I also have a PhD in (cancer) vaccine design! The way I see it, the idea of herd immunity is all very well, but my first duty as a parent is to protect my own children, protecting “the greater society” takes a second place. I may be wrong, but I imagine most parents would agree.

    • Cathy,
Would love to hear more on this from you. You must have unique perspective on the matter given your (cancer) vaccine design PhD.

    • I agree – I’m the only one who is 100% responsible for my children’s health – so I’m the one who gets to make the decisions. No one is coming to look after my kids if they get sick, no matter what the source is, disease or vaccine.

It’s good to see industry people questioning the science of vaccines – it seems like you are only allowed to have an opinion on non vaccinating when you are a scientist. Of course, if you are public you get vilified. It’s a catch 22. But any old numpty can agree with vaccination science.

  41. I know how exhausting vaccine research (aka sifting through the crap) can be. Thanks for sharing the real numbers! The fact that parents don’t do their full research, and that the news can be so dishonest is just mind boggling. Everyday more information comes out.. we are blessed to know better!

  42. Hello,

I am from an are where there has recently been an outbreak of the measles (48 cases in total). The war is raging on between parents who do vaccinate and parents who do not vaccinate. I have heard my public health nurses responses (vaccinations are completely safe, etc, etc.). But when I attempt to dig deeper and see the other side of the equation and I ask anti vaccinators why they choose to forego vaccinations, they seem too afraid to explain to me the negative aspects of it.

As a parent I feel frustrated and exhausted from trying to soft through information/opinions.

Would it be at all possible for you to email me or contact me with further information on the health concerns of vaccinations?

I would very much appreciate hearing from someone on the other side of the equation who has researched and studied the topic.

    Thank you for your time,

    • Read The Thinking Moms Revolution book. When you are finished, contact me again and I’ll give you your next book recommendation :)

The most important thing I can tell you: FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT. Maternal instinct is the greatest gift we are given as mothers.

“To the parents I would say, trust your instinct above all else. When considering how to vaccinate your children, read, get educated, and demand fully informed consent and answers to your questions. When you are stonewalled or these answers are not to your satisfaction, trust your instinct. I say this as someone who has studied and engaged in the science and who has become aware of the limitations of our knowledge and understanding of vaccine safety issues. Maternal instinct, in contrast, has been a steady hand upon the tiller of evolution; we would not be here without it”

  44. Excellent. Re: herd immunity – I think if my doctor were to tell me that my birth control pill is only effective if I don’t ever come into contact with any sperm, I might question its efficacy. Apply this to vaccination.

  45. THANK YOU.

I get a lot of flack from my family about my decision to not vaccinate my (future) children. I have done a lot of research and my fiance and I agree that we do not want to vaccinate our kids. My sister threw a fit, going on and on about “herd immunity” (since when are we cows…?) and whatnot until I reminded her that her kids are “protected”. Thank you for reaffirming our decision and keep up the good work!

  46. I love you so much right now!

A friend shared this on facebook and it could not have been more timely. I have five children none of whom were vaccinated until recently when 3 of the 5 got a booster with pertussis. I wish I knew about you sooner! I have a doctor in the family as well as a nurse who worry a lot about my kids because they don’t receive all their vaccines. They post a lot of articles about the vaccines and I guess I just got a little nervous.

This article quelled my fears and reminded me to pay attention to the details!

When my oldest was a baby our doctor gave us literature from the CDC in order to persuade us to vaccinate. When we read it we were dumbfounded by the fact that even in those sources the vaccines seemed to prove riskier than the disease. In fact those little fliers intended to convince us of the importance of childhood vaccination did quite the opposite. We ignored the biased language and just looked at the numbers. I even remember seeing the statistic 10 in 10,000 and thinking, “That’s 1/10th of a percent! Why should I worry!”

Thank you so much for what you do it greatly appreciated!

    • Yes, Michelle, it’s amazing isn’t it? When I read the CDC information on vaccines, it became apparent to me that the vast majority of people (including medical doctors) are either :

      1) Only reading the verbage, with the mistaken belief that it honestly represents the truth

      2) Are abysmal at math, so they can’t do the calculations for themselves

      3) Haven’t bothered to notice that numbers are provided

      4) Are firmly in the pocket of pharmaceutical companies

      5) Any combination of the above.

I remember reading the stats on the CDC website as a college student, and wondering how they could dare to publish them as is. It seemed to me that their own numbers should tell them the truth, if they ever really looked at them.

Of course, back then I still believed they had the public’s best interest at heart. Oh, the naivete of youth.

  47. Incisively and brilliantly written! I have shared it on Facebook and reblogged it. As a journalist, I am appalled at how easily the general public believe all the propaganda spread on the internet, especially facebook. Thank you for taking the time from your busy day to research this and write about it! My second grandson (11 years) is on the autism spectrum and my first granddaughter has some other issues. Are vaccines to blame? I don’t know for certain, but I do know my daughter would loved to have known the risks and had the opportunity to make an educated decision based on facts; if it could have saved him this hardship, she would have jumped at it.
I also know, (from an article I wrote a few years ago) that you cannot totally trust what the CDC tells you. My contact swore there was no mercury in the vaccines and then proceeded to tell me that a minute amount was used only as “a preservative.” So which is it? My second daughter has chosen to not risk it with her two youngest (she too did not know enough with her first two) children.
Thank you again for writing this.

  48. Wonderful article! Thank you for sharing your insight and thoughts! It’s wonderful to have a kindred spirit who is also examining evidence regarding vaccines! Thank you!!

  49. Excellent article. How would you respond to the claim that unvaccinated children who actually get measles are a threat to those in the general population who are immuno-compromised? (Such as people with cancer or people with allergies to vaccines)

    • If an unvaccinated child OR a vaccinated child contracts measles they need to stay home. That’s how you prevent spread of disease. In the same way we should stay home when we have any other sickness. Don’t forget, vaccinated children still contract measles too and are just as much of a “threat”.

When my children are sick and especially if they had red dots all over their body, there is no way you would see us out in public. It’s common sense.

      • Unfortunately, by the time you know a child has the measles, and can make the decision to keep them home, they’ve already been spreading it for days. It’s called the incubation period, the time between contracting the infection and showing symptoms, and your child would be contagious during it (whereas a child immune through vaccination would quickly fight it off and not become contagious). I’m surprised your advice is neglecting to acknowledge that a child is a transmission risk before symptoms show, given your claims to have been researching this vaccine for 8 years.

      • “whereas a child immune through vaccination would quickly fight it off and not become contagious”

Vaccinated does NOT always mean Immunized. Are you really trying to say that vaccinated children who contract measles aren’t contagious? This is simply not true at all.

And yes, of course there is transmission risk before symptoms show.

  50. HI my oldest son was in the hospital after this shot and had a major allergic reaction to this vaccine we almost lost him he spent three years in and out of the hospital he also lost his hearing due to the hight fevers for 3 years he had a 106.5 he is lucky to be alive the dr told me to never give him another immunization shot as due to fear the same thing would happen also it enlarged his spleen. we had a very hard 3 years then when my youngest was born the paediatrician told us not to give him immunizations at all as he could have the same reaction to his brother. My youngest who has not had a single shot pretty much never gets sick.

  51. This is great! I love it… It’s all about education and making informed decisions. Thank you for this great post!! ;)

  52. Thank you for writing this! We sure need your help in Chilliwack, BC, Canada right now!

I can’t believe this how violent this conversation has become. All over what started with an ‘outbreak’ of 2 (siblings) who were the children of a principal of a private school in our community. When they say, spread to 100 cases… I’m not sure, but I think that’s the number of people who have called the nurse health line, asking about symptoms of the measles.

The Fraser Valley, BC Canada has a low vaccination rate. The Fraser Health Authority is using this as a huge scare tactic to get people from our community into hastily set up vaccination clinics. This is terrible!

I sure would like permission to post a link to your article here on there website, (The Chilliwack Times, newspaper) and perhaps on some other websites and facebook pages, of local radio.

    Thank you
    Tammy Mitchell
    Chilliwack, BC

  53. I am new to you – my mom forwarded your article to me. So well spoken/written. I really appreciate you writing this. I had just seen a bunch of “news” about breakouts of measles in my area. The article I read didn’t mention how many of the cases were in children that had not been vaccinated. Thank you for the reassurance.

  54. Thanks for this! I saw someone post the other article and just felt that I didn’t have the energy to argue with them again over this BS idea of herd immunity. This article nicely and clearly states all the things that are so obviously illogical in that article and that line of thought in general.
    Thank you!

  55. Thank you so much for this. It is so hard to deal with everything as a parent. Choices can be overwhelming, and this, is just one among many that I personally get flack for. What always kills me is that I am NEVER the instigator. Its not like I cruise fb bashing parents for vaccinating their kids. Nor do I make it a topic of discussion. Its always the other way around, and sometimes, adults get tired of being bullied too! So I GREATLY appreciated this article!!

  56. Thank you – I was trying to figure out how to save this article in case I needed to find it again, so I ‘Pinned’ the map graphic. That should work!

  57. I love this post. Thanks for your efforts. You are calm and logical.
I also want to point out a minor typo (I couldn’t find a way to email you privately.)
Just below the map of the US, there’s a “2103″ instead of “2013″

    Keep up the great writing!

  58. Thank you for a great article! I think it’s sad that so many people just follow Pharma so blindly. It’s good to hear from people who aren’t just stating their opinions, but have research to back them up. On the flip side though, I do understand the pro-vaccination people that are concerned about their families getting sick from the unvaccinated. A child with an auto-immune disorder that is on steroid is not allowed to receive vaccines, even if the parent wants them to get them. If this child is exposed to a serious illness, or even something as simple as the chicken pox, it can kill them. I know this because my 2 1/2 yr old unvaccinated daughter was diagnose with an auto immune disorder. I lived in constant fear that she may come in contact with someone who would make her ill. I grew up getting vaccinated, planned on vaccinating my children, then decided not to do any, and after lots of research, decided on a plan that includes some vaccines, but not following the normal schedule. So, while I think it’s good that you question and research what you are giving your children, you have to also keep an open mind as to why some people are so afraid of families who are not vaccinating even though their family is. Living in fear of my child dying from something as simple as the chicken pox certainly opened my eyes to the other side.

  59. Thank you for taking the time and energy to write this rebuttal. I have been getting so tired of the garbage propaganda articles that have been flying around on FB. I was so excited to be able to share your very concise and well written post. So far, no one has tried to debate me on it. You can’t argue with truth and facts. THANK YOU!

  60. Thank you for a well written article. I have reposted it on my blog Our son at age 5 developed ITP (severe low platelets) and the doctor at the Children’s Hospital where he was treated pointed me to a study done by the Centre for Disease Control drawing a correlation between the Measles component of the MMR vaccine and ITP. As I traced the development of his symptoms I realized they all presented when he had his very first shots at age 4.9 and 4.10 (I had decided not to vaccinate him as an infant but began his immunizations at age 4 because all his siblings had got through them ok….) He is 19 and still has some residual effects from his blood disorder. I guess if we tell anyone he never got any more measles shots, we would become another scapegoat….

  61. Thank you soooooo much for this. My son was vaccine injured, the doctors ignored us when I told them what was happening. People say it doesn’t happen and that I must be wrong. They don’t KNOW it’s happening because the doctors are ignoring us when we tell them so they aren’t reporting or studying it. I often tell people it’s rare to find a true anti-vax person because most of us aren’t, most of us are pro-SAFER vaccinations. The current vaccinations aren’t just dangerous for so many, they’re down right deadly in some cases so WHY aren’t they trying to improve them instead of defending them saying they’re “good enough”. I can’t stand it when people say “Oh well I vaccinated my kid and he/she is fine” or “My kid has autism and it wasn’t the vaccinations fault”, that’s great, congrats, you’re one of the lucky many who don’t have to live with the guilt that you unintentionally hurt your child. I did the research, I did an alternative vaccination route, I was bullied by the medical “professionals” even tho I was still vaccinating him! I thought I’d take on the risks vaccinating because I was “protecting” my child. I love my son, he’s an amazing kid but he has to try 100x harder to do just about anything. He can’t enjoy the things he wants to the way he deserves to. He wants so badly to have friends but because he can’t read social cues he gets in their space or “copies” them too much and they don’t understand him. They don’t understand why he’s doing what he does, and because of his impaired language abilities they don’t understand what he’s saying either.

If you happen to have any resources for parent’s of vaccine harmed children I’d love to see them. I’m not nearly as good with words as you are to defend myself and educate others.

    • Jessica, The Thinking Moms Revolution is a great resource and a great place to start. They have a blog, fb page, and a book. They are parents of vaccine injured children who are healing and recovering their children.

      • Jessica, I know exactly what you mean. I recently had a “friend” (now no longer a friend, obviously) tell me, “I don’t care enough to engage, my kids are just fine,” KNOWING that my kids had had severe reactions to vaccines.

It sucks when people don’t care.

If you can, please consider signing your son up for 3 things:

        1) Suzuki violin lessons, where he will be a member of a peer group, as all Suzuki kids get both private lessons and group classes, and it’s FABULOUS for teaching them how to “fit in” musically–which translates to social skills as well. It is very similar to auditory processing therapy–only they come out of it with violin-playing skills. In addition, the it stimulates brain development that affects all kinds of things–math skills, reading skills, listening skills, eye-hand coordination, etc.

        2) theatre classes, which is very similar to speech therapy in that he will learn appropriate dialog, facial expression, vocal expression, body language, AND social cues. In my experience, theatre kids, for some reason, tend to be the most supportive group ever. I think it has to do with the fact that, when they are acting, they are laying their soul out their for everyone to see, and so they bond with each other. Research the theatre classes in your area to see which ones promise the parents that their kids will be stars (you don’t want those) and which ones teach your kids how to act, how to be part of a company, and how to have fun.

        3) martial arts (we did Tae Kwon Do), which will teach your kid coordination, make him part of a group, and as he earns belts, he will feel good about himself, and will earn the respect of others.

All teachers of the above will either be able to offer your son additional instruction, or point you towards someone (a high school kid, maybe) who can give your kid additional coaching if and when he needs it, so don’t be afraid to ask for it!

Good luck to you and your son. Hang in there; it gets better.

  62. Way to refute that ridiculous article. I remember when you were just a little girl running around the Sunflower Cafe where I worked when I was pregnant with my first. Thank God I met your Mom who got me on the right path regarding vaccines. That was way before the internet by the way. LOL I will forever be grateful and so will my 5 children :)

  63. Reblogged this on drdarnitahenry and commented:
My advice to parents is always to do your own research and make the best decision for your family. I chose to stop vaccinating my daughter before age 2 and our almost 2 year old has never been vaccinated. This is because of research I’ve done as a parent. Don’t take anything about your own or your family’s health from anyone blindly. You deserve to become educated and make your own decisions. Visit belliesandblooms to learn more about healthy children and chiropractic and our channel, GreenbriarChiro on Youtube to see The Happy Chiro Baby!

  64. As a parent that struggled mightily over this and decided to vaccinate but break apart the mulit shots. I respect the decision to not vaccinate and am not worried about non-vaccinated kids. Like the one statement read you can’t have it both ways. I have read enough nonsense from both sides that it is hard to make a decision sometimes. I think people that go to extremes to prove their point do more harm than good. That said this article was well written and logical so thank you for that. From a “vaccine” parent to those here, I support your right to choose what you feel is best for your children and think it is illogical to blame your children for any “supposed” outbreak!

  65. It is refreshing to read such logic and to know that others are hearing the truth through your well written rebuttal/coverage of the media hype. The media’s positions are presented in such an all knowing style, from “well educated” sheep of the medical/pharma establishment. Their scare tactics make no sense whatsoever. In time, we will all come to realize that generations of our children were used in a mass experiment in toxicology resistance, specifically neurotoxins.

I love your blog, especially “Eat the cupcake or go home”! Keep up your good work!

  66. Thank you soooooo much for writing this! I am posting it on my husbands page because he showed me that last artical – which I thought was the most stupid this around! All speculation and just an opinion I told him, I would rather be on the side of truth and not on the side fear and uneducated.

  67. This article made me so proud that there are people such as yourself who really take the time and the effort to make the truth known and on a statistical level, not on a general level. Thank you for being here and doing what you do. You make the world a better place. <3

  68. Sixteen years ago, my family doctor counselled me on vaccines. He said, “Your children won’t be able to be enrolled in public school.” I thought, that’ okay, I’m teaching them at home. Then, he told me he wouldn’t worry too much about my kids getting any unwanted diseases, if they don’t do vaccinations , because everyone around them is vaccinated! So the risk of being around someone who was a carrier was unlikely. (I loved that!) At the time I had seven children. Ages 17-18months and because of the age spread, my two oldest had been fully vaccinated. That was when you only needed four vaccines! It was also, before I knew better!

Several years later, we were on vacation, my 18 month old started hacking and coughing severely, but only at night. Nothing through the day. Found out that Whooping Cough was being passed through our church. We had four of our children get the whooping cough. (It is a terrible illness!)

Now, out of seven children, two were fully vaccinated and only one of them came down with the whooping cough. The other five were not vaccinated, and three came down with it. The other two did not. (It is possible that they could have had mild cases and we wouldn’t have known it.)

I guess I write all this to say, vaccines are not the answer! They won’t keep you from every illness that they purport to prevent.

  69. I was recently surprised to learn of a friend’s son who caught measles in spite of having received all required vaccines since birth…
Apart from having caught measles as a child myself (not sure whether I was vaccinated at the time or not), this was another reason for me to avoid the MMR vaccine for my toddler son for the time being.

  70. One of the saddest things I saw was that about 3 to 4 thousand people shared your article, the NVIC article, and the Greater Good article. And over 460,000 people shared the Daily Beast article. I am so saddened by that! Please keep up the good work!

  71. Wow. That was incredibly written. I am sitting here with goosebumps after having read this. Thank you for your voice, and thank you for standing up to Big Pharma. I wish that people could wake up and see what’s happening in the world, rather than acting like a bunch of sheep just doing what they are told. Hats off to you sister!

  72. Congrats on standing up and speaking out against the lunacy of the attacks that we have to stand up to for our choices. I actually just wrote a post on this subject (prompted by your own article here) after the responses of some of our friends who had a thing or two to say about our choice not to vaccinate.

It’s hard not to get angry, but I’ve just learnt to let that stuff roll off my back and laugh about it. Nothing will come of engaging in a conversation with those who are too stubborn to consider any alternative to their burnt-in thinking.

  73. Oh! This made me smile! This put a skip in my step today. Thank you for your support behind us “pre-meditated murders” (which another popular article called us). Thank you! This was truely written well and to the point. without the negative anger of the opposite side. Thank you!

  74. Great article! Not much to say other than, Great! Anti-vaccine is not a movement but a lifestyle and once people see that its a healthy choice they too will reap the benefits. Our household has been against the flu shot for years and thankfully have not been sick since we stopped getting the shot, but have come to realize we need to be 100% anti-vaccine. Will all these reports or “infection after injection”, it makes you think that the pharmaceutical companies are making people sick. A scare tactic to create a demand for more.

  75. I am so grateful for this great article. I am a homeopath and naturopath (though not practicing that much these days due to other commitments and passions!). Why did I become a homeopath and naturopath? That is because in 1988, when I was working on my doctorate in music at Northwestern University I was FORCED to have a MMR vaccine. Yes, that’s right. Even though I was 30 years old, because I could not find proof of having this vaccine as a child, I could not register for classes, unless I had this vaccine. Well guess what? I got very sick from this. My whole immune system shut down. I had to stop my doctoral work and never returned. I did develop an interest in holistic medicine however, because it was only through Chinese medicine and homeopathy that I regained my well being enough to start functioning again in moderation. About two years after this happened, I learned about a class action suit against Merck, Sharpe and Doane, the makers of this MMR vaccine. A group of WOMEN DOCTORS AND NURSES WERE FILING SUIT AGAINST THIS COMPANY SINCE MANY OF THEM DEVELOPED LIFE CHANGING IMMUNE PROBLEMS FROM THIS VACCINE! I was floored . . I have not been wiling to admit why and when my health fell apart. But there it was. ON further research, I learned that 1 out of 100 adult women come down with immune problems from this vaccine (One in 100!) After I earned my degree in homeopathy and started studying holistic medicine in earnest I moved to California and began my new life of working with treating animals holistically and rescuing cats. I began to see case after case of animals being seriously hurt by vaccination! Please note that every vaccine on the market has either (or both) aluminum and formaldehyde in them. Some of the large vials of flu shots still contain thimerosal in them. The practice of giving many vaccines all at once is also extremely dangerous since it causes “confusion” of the immune system . .. this later can lead to autoimmune diseases. (And over active immune system) All vaccines are questionable in both their safety and effectiveness. We have paid a great price in causing serious chronic illness in both humans and animals to due to vaccines just to “feel safe”.I agree with the author of this article that Big Pharma and many doctors have created the anti-vaccine movement. . .. by treating vaccines like “candy” and not respecting how powerful they are.

  76. I really crave sensible discourse about these issues where both sides can agree to work toward what is best for our children and the world without so much emotion and fear-based decisions involved. I’ve never been a big fan of making decisions out of fear. I almost always regret them – such as getting the flu shot when I was in my third trimester after going 30 years of never getting it even once. My doctor pressured me and made me fear for my baby. Ironically, I felt so much worse emotionally and mentally after getting the shot because I’d made the decision out of fear.

When the H1N1 scare happened, one friend got really angry with me for not getting it. She had no idea how horribly difficult that decision was for me and my husband. I pored over articles and studies and checked Health Canada’s Flu Watch site for over two weeks. Every time the media reported another death (most of them unconfirmed), I nearly let fear lead me to getting the shots for our family. But I knew from the experience when I was pregnant and from the stats that H1N1 was not going to be the pandemic everyone was expecting.

Since H1N1, I spend time every year researching the vaccine issue. Since my son (the one I was pregnant with when I got that flu shot?) was diagnosed with autism a little over a year ago, I’m much more involved with researching vaccines. I’m also more open to the possibility that autism is connected to them, where I wasn’t before. I will admit that I don’t like absolutist rhetoric from the “anti-vax” side or the “pro-vax” side. I’d rather people question what’s being pumped into their bodies in the same way that they question and speak out against environmental concerns and food processing practices and pesticide use – to name a few issues. Vaccines just seem to be blindly accepted with vague references to scientific fact that I’m sure few people can actually cite real references to.

I do have a question about something that I read (sorry, I can’t remember where) – the writer of the article said that one of the vaccine information pamphlets has a warning that the vaccine may cause autism. I am wondering if that is true. I don’t know if the source of the information was reliable and I didn’t have enough time to do the digging. Thanks!

    • Read the DTaP package insert.
”Adverse events reported during post-approval use of DTaP vaccine include idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, SIDS, anaphylactic reaction, cellulitis, autism, convulsion/grand mal convulsion, encephalopathy, hypotonia, neuropathy, somnolence and apnea. Events were included in this list because of the seriousness or frequency of reporting”

  77. Hello everyone…this is for the author of this article. Not getting vaccines for MMR and the common flu and such makes sense to me but how about the more serious diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, or polio. My daughter is turning 11 soon and coming up for the next round of vaccinations. I was going to skip the MMR and I never get a flu shot for her or me anyways but I am not sure yet about the more serious diseases. Do you have some credible sources you can share with me? I would love to read up on this. In the meantime, I did obtain the waivers from the Department of Health allowing me not to vaccinate her but still have her attend public school. I just wanted to be prepared. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

  78. Reblogged this on Unassisted Journey 2: Mommy of 2 and commented:
I wish I had the words to explain myself the way this lady does. I’m sick of people (mostly just the looks and comments I get if I need to use the hospital) when it comes to vaccinations. I’m scared to death of getting these childhood diseases which I was “protected from” now that I’m an adult and it will be 100x worse for me. I wish I had that permanent immunity that comes from contracting the disease/virus. Instead I’m going to be happy for my kids if they get it, and freaked out for myself because I’ve never gotten anything to protect me. I wish my parents had been anti-vaxxers, maybe I would have a chance in the future when it comes time for my kids to catch normal things that have basically been a right of passage for humanity up until the mid 1900s.

  79. Very well put. My child was diagnosed with ITP after getting the Hep-B vaccine, which he wasn’t supposed to get (ITP being a condition where the immune system starts attacking platelets). His hematologist said the event could have been related to the vaccination. While he is much better now, it opened our eyes up to the risks of vaccination.

  80. I read that blog and I was getting so mad thinking about how nasty and opinionated that “Doctor” is. In the comments someone posted a link to this and I thank you. Calmed me down, a lot. Thank you for the information and the support!!!

  81. Obviously the whole “anti-vaxxer movement” thing is media-manufactured. The rates of diseases that people are vaccinated against are no different than in the past and yet before 2008 I honestly don’t remember such a massive media scare campaign going on.

The interesting part of that logic is that the media scare campaign only concerns diseases for which commercial vaccination products are on the line.

A good example is tuberculosis, against which Americans are not vaccinated. I am vaccinated and fully immune (not in USA). And yet with fantastic number of tuberculosis infections in the USA going into 10s of thousands, nobody seems to be interested. Instead there is panic about 5 or 10 measles cases, a disease that while nasty, is nowhere close as dangerous as tuberculosis. The reason? No money in tuberculosis vaccinations. Lot’s of money in tuberculosis antibiotics – that also create T-superbugs – a problem that would not exist with tuberculosis vaccine.

Please note that all diseases we are talking about as far as “anti-vaxxer” movement is concerned are diseases that Big Pharma cannot profit from otherwise, because they are viral and they go away on their own (except Polio, of course).

    • Mike or should I say “Rocket”, I see you are desperate to get a comment approved. I like your new approach :) Is there actually something you would like to say or are you just trying to be a bully? So far, none of your comments have been approved because you haven’t actually had anything to say. By the way, no-one is perfect so this comment is quite silly too.

  82. Great article!! I have literally had people refuse to let their vaccinated children play with my unvaccinated children, which I have always thought was oxymoronic. Especially since these children were nearly always sick, on antibiotics, etc. for ear infections, bronchitis, you name it, posing a viable threat to my child’s good health!! My children have never so much as tasted an antibiotic!

Also, as a side note, my daughter, in kindergarten, brought a book home today from school, about a lizard that has to go to the doctor, as we are looking through the pictures she sees one with the doc holding a needle in his hand, and the doc says “okay, now time for your shots!” and my daughter said, “what’s a shot?” I was suddenly overcome with a gratefulness I can’t describe, so glad she doesn’t know…..

  83. You have put in print everything I have always thought about the vaccine propaganda. Thank you! Using your own common sense and judgment when the big Pharma propaganda poisons the minds of everybody around you is very very difficult. I am so glad I have not subjected my child to this despicable human experiment in the name of money!

  84. Thank you for this. Years ago my ex husband joined the army and was given dozens of shots. Just a couple weeks later he ended up with meningitis encephalitis. I brought up the odd correlation to his dr’s, nurses and his mom… his mom is a dr and she wouldn’t hear it. Gave me an hour long speech on how great vaccines are. Barf.

  85. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of research or information concerning adults receiving vaccination? My husband is Thai and was never vaccinated. Currently we live in Thailand, but we’ve been considering repatriating back to the US. In order for him to obtain citizenship he will have to get ALL of his vaccinations. I would like to know how this is going to affect him and what the possible side effects could be. Thank you for your help!

  86. Thank you so much for writing this! I am a young mother with a family full of doctors who insist the full vaccine schedule is the only way to go. You have given me much needed confidence!

  88. Great article. My son was vaccinated until 24 months old. He came down with the measles not once but twice from GUESS WHAT the measles vaccine. his Dr. called them clinical measles… I began my research on vaccines and did not have my children vaccinated again!!!! I have even had a pediatrician tell me my the 3 yr old had heart palpatations because of not immunizing, I was a neglectful mother and needed to be educated. I then BLASTED this Dr. with all the information from books on the subject ( from Pediatricians) that do not believe that vaccines are safe. She promptly told me I was wrong… I promptly WALKED out and found a non vaccine friendly Dr.!

  89. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! Can you point me towards any information on not vaccinating our pets? Just took our dogs in for the required rabies shots and had to sit through the vet’s lecture about covering all the other possible deadly diseases. Makes me feel just about the same as every time I have to “fess up” to a doctor or nurse regarding one of my kids.

    • Go and find your state requirements and you will probably find that you need to do about 10% of what the vet will have you do if you are uneducated. For example, here in TX most shots are only required for the first year. once they have them, they are considered lifetime. Rabies is once every 3 years if you get the 3 year shot.

  90. Fantastic article. I will be sharing this on just about every site that is posting vaccine misinformation. Thank you for summarizing all of my thoughts so eloquently and intelligently.

  91. Thank you for this! I write for a popular blog (through my employer) and cannot post anything about the vax vs. anti-vax movement as it is still too controversial. So I am forced, by legality, to leave it up to others to fight the good fight. Thank you for being diplomatic in your efforts to show, with real data, how vaccines are harmful and we are also incredibly loving parents who only want long and healthy lives for our children.

  92. Thank you! Yes, they (Pharma) did get greedy, didn’t they? And they are getting even greedier. I heard there are hundreds of vaccines in the works.

  93. Great article. I am simply amazed at how many seemingly intelligent people buy into the bad science and obvious manipulation of data by big pharma that ultimately puts at risk the very children this society is sworn to protect. I never vaccinated my children when they were young, and they grew into very healthy young adults.

  94. THANK YOU so much for so eloquently stating this! Before I woke up and found out the dangers and evils of vaccines and transitioned my family over to eating an organic, healthy diet (and moved us to alternative healthcare), I was one of those moms who “believed” what the doctor said and had my daughter vaccinated. She ended up with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). She went through speech and OT/PT through the school district as well as whatever outside services we were able to provide/insurance paid for. When she was 7, I myself became horribly sick; that was when the veil was lifted, and I discovered the lies we’ve been told/sold. She is now 14, and her symptoms have been put into remission through chelating for severe heavy metal toxicity as well as eating real, whole foods to rebuild her body/immune system and taking supplements to help replay depleted nutrients.

She has not had a single shot–for anything–since she was 7, and I have and will continue to file any paperwork I need to to make sure she never has another vaccine of any kind. It’s taken a very, very long time to get her body (and brain) back to where they should be (normal) that I will not allow any vaccines to undo all the work we’ve done. And I have told doctors who are stubborn and continue to try to push vaccinating her that if they care to sign a piece of paper, stating they will take full responsibility for anything that happens to my daughter–to include providing financial care–in case she is vaccine injured, then let’s do it. NOT ONE doctor is willing to sign that paper just to jab my daughter. I also have an added insurance policy in the form of a lab report from the Mayo Clinic that states she had a genetic liver mutation that doesn’t allow her body to detox or metabolize correctly. I am convinced that it is that liver issue that most likely caused the SPD in the first place because her body couldn’t get rid of the accumulating toxins.

    Keep up the good work!

  95. My now 19 yr old daughter was 6 months old when she reacted to a DPT. I had told my sister for months she was nuts about not vaccinated, however when the DPT put her in the emergency room for a spiked fever of 106 just hours later, I decided to do my own research. What was frustrating is how they denied the vaccine caused it, alls they did is put her in a cold room, and shot Tylenol up her butt to try and bring down the temperature. Once it was, and it stabilized, they sent her home with no checking on what may have caused it. That was her last shot, and none of my other daughters have gotten any. They are VERY healthy and when they get sick, they kick it fast. My oldest even appeared to get the “bird” flu based on symptoms but knocked it out in 3 days. My research continues and I am open to new information but I refuse at this point to endanger my kids. IF a doctor was so sure, and was willing to sign all of the paperwork to be personally responsible, I still would not (though all have refused me as well) because I would not do that to my children. I am thankful that she did not have any other side affects that I am aware of right now.

  96. The thing that most “gets” me is that parents today are SO afraid… just plain old AFRAID of all these diseases vaccines are meant to protect against. You ask them why they’d risk all those vaccinations, and you literally see the terror come into their faces and hear their voice tremble and they say “oh, I could never live with myself if they died of ___.” or “I’m so scared to NOT vaccinate, to just leave them unprotected.” What is so ironic to me is that in our day of truly excellent crisis-medicine, those diseases are TREATABLE… more than they ever have been. We have antibiotics, IVs, ventilators, etc. So even IF the absolute worst were to happen and our child needed to be hospitalized because they were just that sick, now is the best time in the history of the world to get that sick! We also have clean water, access to nutritious food year round, any herb we could ever need, highly concentrated essential oils and even high doses of any mineral or vitamin available. Healing is more possible now than ever… yet we parents have been conditioned to have a knee-jerk-terror reaction and are willing to risk inflicting terrible life-long afflictions on our children to avoid “getting sick.” That is insanely good marketing.
Personally, I’d rather risk the measles or polio– even if it were to come with the worst-case secondary infection and temporary paralysis! (under 1% and totally treatable and usually non-permanent with support, therapy and vitamins B & C)

  97. Thank you for writing this. I am very pleased with your comments and research to back up what you said. I fully believe all that you have wrote but am not as great with words as you are. :) I will be linking to this post for others to read. I have met lots with questions and this is a great starting point for them. Blessings to you and your family. :)

  98. Although I was vaccinated and made the same decision with my child, I agree with the need for logic in the article. Yes, how there are those that tend to exaggerate! Ultimately, I believe it comes to choice and respect of those decisions. In this case of vaccinations, if one opts to or not to do it, that’s fine, even if they don’t do any research… I don’t care if they just flip a coin on the matter, as long as it is a consciously making a choice and not being forced into a position. Regardless of one’s position on this matter (and this can probably be applied to many issues), let people make their own decisions.

  99. This is a wonderful piece. The illogic of the vaccines-no-matter-what movement is sheer lunacy. My “favorite” is the idea that somehow an unvaccinated child can make a vaccinated child sick. By virtue of being unvaccinated. Right.

  100. I just want to thank you so much for this article! It really could not have come at a better time. All 4 of our children have had some vaccines, because we simply did what we were “supposed to do”. Over the past several months, as we began to do some research, we became a lot more skeptical of the whole vaccination thing. With 2 of our children due for boosters this year, we realized we had a decision to make…now. After a lot of research, we decided that we would not continue with the vaccines. (We have never done the flu shot, and even before our research we were adamantly avoiding the HPV vaccine.) Over the past few days, I have seen another explosion of posts/articles, talking about the “dangers” of not vaccinating. I actually went to bed last night second-guessing our decision. I prayed last night for clarity and wisdom to make the right decision for our children. Then, this morning, I read this. Thank you again, so very much, for reminding me why we made our decision, and that we truly are making the right decision. :)

  101. Bravo! Standing ovation from this reader. Apparently if we believe to think outside of the box and try to find out what is going wrong in our children, we are lunatics. Gluten intolerance, peanut allergies, autism- all virtually unheard of until recently. We need to be asking why instead of just nodding our heads and swallowing their lies.

  102. I have friends whose child got Autism from what appears to be the vaccine residuals in his mothers blood. HOWEVER though he was very high in the spectrum initially over the past few years, he now behaves like a normally boy, though it has taken years of treatment. I will let her tell more if she chooses to. Its quite a story and she has documented it well. One interesting note, that though you may find Autism outside vaccines, it is EXTREMELY rare, check out the Amish for a great example. Its like claiming that just because someone got lung cancer that didn’t smoke, we should not tell people not to smoke. I was someone on the other side, as were most of us before being convinced to switch sides.

  103. Thank you for writing this article, I wish I had known more before my kids were all vaccinated, I would not have given them one single vaccination!! Well written article. Again, thanks and especially since you should be relaxing :)

  104. I notice that you haven’t included a reference or link with your paragraph that says this:
“Seriously though, let’s not forget that the measles vaccine is a live virus vaccine that can live in saliva and feces, so yes those recently vaccinated are carriers. Vaccine shedding anyone?”
How many cases of the measles have been caused by shedding from the vaccine? You make it sound like this is a genuine risk with the vaccine. I can find nothing to suggest that it is.

  106. Great article! I can feel the passion within this article and it’s great to read the work of someone who gets as infuriated as I do when confronted with such nonsense from those who refuse to look into the facts.

  107. Sorry to break in but this is urgent. Do you know about the CDC whistle blower? Watch my Face Book wall for updates if you can. 108. This makes me want to cry tears of relief. THANK YOU. I found this article on google. Most of what you wrote are things I already knew, but I have been so bullied lately (family/Facebook), that I was starting to doubt myself and forget the things that I know to be true. The articles you are talking about are so abrupt and rude and judgmental. It gets my heart palpitating haha. Your points are so GOOD! The claims that the mmr is not linked to autism is such crap! My kids doctor admittedly told me that almost all patients who come in with a sudden onset of autism were recently vaccinated! Hard not to believe that caused it. Anyway, thank you again. I needed this today.

    • Take heart Ashley Poole that many are waking & soon this war waged against our children will be over. Too many paying attention now for the criminals to continue their evil work for profit. Many cover ups have been exposed & it seems #Nothinghappened, yet. Many behind the scenes are working on behalf of all children & the guilty holding them in pHARM’s way will be held accountable. There is much talk of the Nuremberg Code & Geneva Convention. The ax is falling & heads will roll. The top dogs should be very afraid & their lackies better start looking for new work.
